Abbey Sailing Club is not a RYA training centre, nor are we able to offer official training courses for adults or children.
What we do offer is informal help and support, to assist those who wish to self learn. We have a large number for club owned sailing dinghies, which are free for members to use. This includes a large fleet of Optimist sailing dinghies, which are perfect for kids to learn on. Our experienced members are on hand to help show how adults how to set up the club boats, and now to pack them away again. We encourage all new adult members to take part in our Safety Boat training, allowing them to actively contribute to saftey on the water.
For those who prefer more formalised training, we are able to advise on local RYA approved training centres that can give RYA Dinghy Level 1 & 2.
Abbey Sailing Club has a busy racing calendar throughout the Spring, Summer and Autumn months.
Organised by our Racing Secretary, we race on Wednesday evenings and Sunday Mornings. Races are grouped into leagues, each with their associated trophies that are presented at the end of the season at our awards ceremony evening.
Although members are free to sail at any time, most social sailing often takes place at weekends, on Wednesday nights either side of scheduled racing, or during the school holidays anytime through the week!
