Looking to learn to sail in Oxfordshire?  Our club is ideal for beginners. with a supportive environment where you can develop your skills at your own pace.  Many of our members started with no prior sailing experience.

Abbey Sailing Club is proud to be affiliated to the RYA.  Whilst we have many beginners at our club, we are not an RYA training centre, nor are we able to offer official training courses for adults or children.

What we do offer is informal help and support, to assist those who wish to self-learn.  We have 24 club owned sailing dinghies, which are free for members to use.  This includes:

• 12 Optimists - perfect for young kids to learn on.

• 2 Laser Picos - Very popular for children and teenagers 

• 6 Toppers - A classic learner dinghy

• 2 Wayfarers - Larger dinghies for 2 or more people

• 1 Enterprise - A classic 2 person dinghy

• 1 Laser Stratos - Our most modern club boat

Our experienced members are on hand to help show how to set up the club boats, and how to pack them away again.  We encourage all new adult members to take part in our Safety Boat training, allowing them to actively contribute to safety on the water.

For those who prefer gaining certificates, we are able to advise on local RYA approved training centres that can give RYA Dinghy Level 1 & 2. 

Although members are free to sail at any time, most social sailing often takes place at weekends, on Wednesday nights either side of scheduled racing, or during the school holidays at any time during the week!
